ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project aims to describe aspects of the economic impact of the insurance sector on the Portuguese Economy.

The first part of the study presents a bird eye view of salient macroeconomic and microeconomic dimensions of the Portuguese Insurance sector. The second part explains how to measure the output and the value added of the Insurance sector, a task not without difficulties given the nature of e insurances services. The third part presents an econometric study with the aim of identifying the type of investment that have a positive impact on growth to inform the insurance sector towards what type of investment to channel their portfolio decisions. The fourth part analyses the role of the private insurance in in the labor market, in particular her role in providing labor accident insurance.

Francesco Franco
Francesco Franco has been teaching at Nova School of Business and Economics since 2004. He earned his PhD in Economics from the Massachussets Institute of Technology. His research interests include fluctuations and applied macroeconomics, topics on which he has published in Portuguese and international journals.
