Ana Fontoura Gouveia is an invited Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Nova School of Business and Economics, currently responsible for the graduate course on Public Finance. As an economist interested in public policy and political economy, she works at the Research Department of Banco de Portugal, in the Structural Research and Public Finance Division.

Steffen Hoernig is Professor of Economics at Nova School of Business & Economics, Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained a degree in Management at the Universität Bielefeld in Germany; a Master in Applied Mathematical Sciences at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA; and a PhD degree in Economics at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
Miguel Lebre Freitas
Miguel Lebre de Freitas holds a PhD in Economics from the University of London, in the United Kingdom.
His research focuses mainly on Open Economy Macroeconomics, and other areas of interest include the Portuguese Economy and Economic Growth.
Susana Peralta
Susana Peralta holds a PhD in Economics from the Université Catholique de Louvain, in Belgium. Her research focuses on the economics of multi-layered governments, including tax competition and political economy issues.
Pedro Portugal
Pedro Portugal studied economics at the Universidade do Porto and received his PhD at University of South Carolina; in 1991.
He is currently a senior researcher at the Bank of Portugal and invited professor of Economics at Nova School of Business and Economics. His main area of interest is applied labor economics, focusing on issues of microeconomics of unemployment; unemployment compensation; wage bargaining; job security; and worker displacement.
Paulo Rodrigues
Paulo M. M. Rodrigues is a senior research economist at the Economics and Research Department of the Bank of Portugal and Professor of Econometrics at Nova School of Business and Economics. His research interests include time-series econometrics, financial econometrics and empirical macroeconomics and finance.
Margarida Soares
Margarida Soares is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Nova SBE. She earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago. Her research interests lie in the intersection of Corporate Finance, Labor Economics with an emphasis on gender decisions and outcomes, and Innovation.
Nikita Melnikov
Nikita Melnikov is an applied microeconomist who works on topics related to Political Economy, Development Economics, and Public Policy. Before joining Nova SBE, he received a PhD in Economics from Princeton University. Nikita Melnikov’s work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of Comparative Economics, and the American Economic Review: Papers and Proceedings.
Hugo de Almeida Vilares
Hugo is a Labour and Urban Economist and an Applied Microeconometrician, with work published in the British Journal of Industrial Relations and the Journal of Econometrics. He is an Assistant Professor at University of Porto and a Guest Teacher at Department of Management of LSE. He is affiliated at the Centre for Economic Performance (LSE), Economics for Policy Knowledge Center (Nova SBE) and CEMF.UP (U. Porto).
Alexander Coutts
Alexander Coutts is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Schulich School of Business of York University since 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University, with specializations in development and experimental economics. During his studies he was a researcher at New York University’s Center for Technology and Economic Development, based in Abu Dhabi.
