Francesco Franco

Executive Director

Francesco Franco has been teaching at Nova School of Business and Economics since 2004. He earned his PhD in Economics from the Massachussets Institute of Technology. His research interests include fluctuations and applied macroeconomics, topics on which he has published in Portuguese and international journals.

João Amador

João Amador is an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Nova School of Business and Economics where he teaches Macroeconomics and European Economy. He has also taught Microeconomics and Macroeconomics in other departments of Universidade Nova and in executive programs. He has completed his Ph.D. in Economics in 2000.

Andre de Castro Silva

João Duarte is an Assistant Professor at Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before joining NovaSBE, Joao was a research associate at the University of Cambridge.

He obtained a degree in Management at the Universität Bielefeld in Germany; a Master in Applied Mathematical Sciences at the University of Georgia, Athens, USA; and a PhD degree in Economics at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Pedro Portugal

Pedro Portugal studied economics at the Universidade do Porto and received his PhD at University of South Carolina; in 1991.
He is currently a senior researcher at the Bank of Portugal and invited professor of economics at Nova School of Business and Economics. His main area of interest is applied labor economics; focusing on issues of microeconomics of unemployment; unemployment compensation; wage bargaining; job security; and worker displacement.

Paulo Rodrigues

Paulo M. M. Rodrigues obtained his PhD in Econometrics from the School of Economic Studies of the University of Manchester. He is a professor of economics at Nova School of Business and Economics, a senior research economist at the Bank of Portugal, and a fellow of both the Clive Granger Centre for Time Series Analysis of the University of Nottingham and the University of Essex´s Centre for Financial Econometrics.

Margarida Soares

Margarida Soares is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Nova SBE. She earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago. Her research interests lie in the intersection of Corporate Finance, Labor Economics with an emphasis on gender decisions and outcomes, and Innovation.

José Tavares

José Tavares earned his doctorate in Economics at Harvard University, where he specialized in Political Economy and Macroeconomics, and is currently professor of economics at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London.

Hugo de Almeida Vilares

Hugo is a Labour and Urban Economist and an Applied Microeconometrician, with work published in the British Journal of Industrial Relations and the Journal of Econometrics. He is an Assistant Professor at University of Porto and a Guest Teacher at Department of Management of LSE. Alexander Coutts

Alexander Coutts has been an Assistant Professor of Economics at Nova School of Business and Economics since 2015. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University, with specializations in development and experimental economics. She also was the Principal Investigator at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), Portugal, where she remains as the Director of the Graduate Program Science for Development (PGCD), aiming at improving science in Africa.

João Oliveira is an economist at Banco de Portugal and a PhD student at the New School of Business and Economics. In his research, he uses macroeconomic models of heterogeneous agents to study the effects of technological changes on the economic inequality of consumers, as well as to determine policies to mitigate their adverse effects.

Rúben Silva Branco collaborates with Banco de Portugal as Adviser to the Governor.
